The college was a  co-Education one. Before the appointment of Mr. S M R Haq, the students of Urdu were opted to study the language on their own.
The department has been a ‘one man department’ ever since it came into existence Mr. SMR Haq Strived hard in bringing the department to the mark of excellence. Literary and cultural activities were the regular affairs of the department students participated very actively in learning and reciprocating. The results on the academic front also were par excellence. The department of Urdu has the satisfaction of producing good citizen to the nation. Many of the students produced by the department have established themselves in various fields. A few have touched the mark of excellence – in the field of education as professors, Lecturers, High School Head Masters ( K E S ) and as teachers at primary and Higher Primary level, Advocates in the filed of low- Engineers, Civil, Electronics, Doctors, Custom, Officers, etc and some more have been working in the middle Eastern Countries in Various fields.
The college was bifurcated into sree siddaganga college of women in the year 1982. Mr. S Mohammed Rahamathul Haq was asked by the management to lead the department along with Mr. Yasmeen jahan on a part time basis, so as to lead the department. The impact of the Gokak Committee Report presented in the year 1980 has its own negative impact on the minority languages – particularly the Urdu language – Curbing the strength of the students to the lowest possible level.
Since the bifurcation of the College – the second one – delinking pre- university college. In the year 2001, the college and the department have confined themselves to the degree courses as per the UGC norms.
Students to the department of Urdu usually come from, poor, low middle class or the middle class, they need some extra attention and thus the department has been extending the moral support in making them fell one among the main stream, by shunning the feeling seclusion.
Since students of Urdu language assemble from all section – representing almost every section – i.e., Arts and its various options – Science and its various options – they will be usually one, two or three at the maximum from each section. They prefer the Excursions, and Tours from the main stream only as they benefit of majority and the knowledge more pertaining to the particular faculty – depending upon the nature of the tour.
