Vision and Mission
Vision:
To instill cultural, ethical, spiritual and moral values and excellence of heritage through the study of Kannada language and literature.
Mission:
- To introduce the glory of Kannada literature through the ages and its contribution to the world of knowledge to expose students to the branches of Kannada literature like poetry, prose, novel, drama, essay, grammar and epics
- To imbide human values through literature to develop self reliant, cultured, productive and enlightened citizens
- To develop good communication skills for better employment opportunities
A Brief History of the Department
In June 1984, Sri Sarvagna Management started the first grade college of arts and commerce at Nelamangala. Sri. B. M. Lingappa had been working as a lecturer in Kannada Department from 1984 to 1988. He left the college consequent to his appointment as lecturer in Kannada at SJRC Womens college Bangalore during 1988.
In the year 1988-89 Sri Sarvagna Management handed over the college to Sree Siddagnaga Management. The management committee appointed Smt. K C Mangala as lecturer in Kannada Department. In 1993 Mamatha Rani was appointed as part time lecturer in the department.
In 1996 K C Mangala was transfer to Sree Siddaganga Women’s College, Tumkur, in her place Sri. K C Nagaraju was transferred to this college. In 1998 Prof. M Prasanna Kumar, Professor of Kannada at Sree Siddaganga Boys College, Tumkur, was transferred to Nelamangala college, with additional charge of Principal. In His place Sri. K C Nagaraju was transferred to Sree Siddaganga Boys College, Tumkuru. In the year 1999 The Management appointed Prof. G. C. Rajanna, Professor of Chemistry has full time principal of the College. Consequent to this professor M Prasanna Kumar continued has professor and head of the department of Kannada at this college. In the year April 2003 professor G C Rajanna, Rtd. as Principal. The management appointed the senior most Professor in the College. Prof. M Prasannakumar as full time principal once again. Due to the workload increase, the management elevated Smt. Mamatha Rani as full time lecturer on consolidated salary and appointed Sri. M. T. Mallikarjunaiah, as part time lecturer in the department after the retirement of Prof. M. Prasannakumar, Smt. Mamatharani continued as full time lecturer till Smt. C V Shakuntala was appointed as permanent lecturer by the management during the year 2007. C V Shakuntala transferred from our college to Sree Siddaganga Womens College Tumkur due to Smt. Dakshayani Prakash transferred from Sree Siddaganga Womens College to our college. She was also worked as In-charge Principal on 06-07-2017 She transferred from our college to Sree Siddaganga Arts, Science and Commerce College, Tumkur. On 06-07-2017 Smt. Munirathnamma transferred from Sree Siddaganga Arts, Science and Commerce College, Tumkur. She worked as head of the department because of her superannuation Smt. Komala N G appointed as lecturer in Kannad on 30-06-2023. Now She is working as head of the department till date.
