Department brief history

Sri. B S Paramashivaiah Founder of Sarvagna Education Society established Sarvagna First Grade College, Nelamangala in 1984. At that time, the English department was headed by Sri. Shivaprasad who later took on transfer to Bhagavan Buddha College, Bangalore. Owing to some inconveniences, the college was handed over to Siddaganga Education Society in 1989. Sree Siddaganga First Grade College, Nelamangala began to work in concurrence at the behest and generosity of His Holiness Dr. Sree Sree Shivakumar Swamiji. The esteemed institution carved a niche in the educational field. Smt. S Jagada was recruited as Lecturer in English and Prof. Nasir Ahamad was utilized as a Part-time lecturer for a period of nine years. After his exit, Sri. Gangaraju G was appointed who still continues to work in his position. As a part of de-linking process Smt. S. Jagada was transferred to Sree Siddaganga Women’s College, Tumkur in the year 2001 and Sri. B. Basavesh was posted in her place. Again, Smt. S Jagada was transferred to the present institution till Feb 2006. In Feb 2006 Dr. R Nanjaiah was transferred as Principal from Sree Siddaganga Women’s College, Tumkur to Siddaganga First Grade College, Nelamangala. After his retirement, Smt. S Jagada was posted to the existing position in 2013. At present, She heads the department engaging Grant-in-Aid courses and Sri. Gangaraju G self-financial courses. On 31-07-2022 Smt. S Jagada retired from duty at present Dr. G Gangaraju Heads the department engaging Grant-in-Aid and self financial courses.

The department has reaped huge benefits from dedicated teachers along with several batches of committed students. It has oriented itself in its growth towards a broader vision of English language by striking a balance between the tradition and contemporary components. It plays a pivotal role in the dissemination of the language to all sections of the society. Apart from regular academics, the department organizes various innovative and developmental learner-centred programmes to enhance and enrich communicative skills through English language lab and language club. Recently, it has initiated a unique programme of awarding cash prize to meritorious students. The department has a feather to its crown to have two NSS programming officers
